Wine & Food Fest 2014
I come from an Italian family and food is everything. I love food. I dream about food. I talk about food. You mention food and my heart skips a beat. I’m a self-diagnosed foodie. As I moved from Montreal—a city where you can find virtually any type of dish imaginable and the land of the bagel and poutine—I feared I wouldn’t have that same opportunity to satisfy the inner glutton… Playa del Carmen, however, has proved to be up to the challenge! With amazing restaurants ranging in flavour and price, plus festivals like “Taste of Playa”, it has succeeded in not only being a beautiful beach retreat, but a foodie’s playground. The region is poised to strike brilliance again with the 2014 Wine and Food Festival Cancun-Riviera Maya. Occurring March 13th – 16th, it promises be one of the most elegant, graceful and chic festivals in the world. The 2014 Wine and Food Festival Cancun-Riviera Maya will pay tribute to world-famous chefs like Chef Daniel Boulud and Chef Guillermo González Beristáin. A number of exciting events such as interactive cooking challenges and a catamaran sunset cruise with a private island lunch will be featured. Three phenomenal wine and spirits tastings will be hosted by a world-ranked sommelier team which includes Veronique Rivest (ranked number one in the world), Elyse Lambert (among the top 12), and Juan Carlos Flores (renowned Mexican sommelier). For two days, guests will be able to taste impressive wines of Europe and the Americas while being able to network with internationally leading winemakers and winery owners. Packages for these tastings range from 50 USD to 100 USD per person. The most popular event of the festival, the Gourmet Tasting Village, will take place on March 15th and 16th. The theme this year is “French Village Gourmet Experience”, which will showcase acclaimed dishes from some of the best restaurants in the Mayan Riviera. Exquisite wines from the finest wineries in the world will be available to enjoy, as well as cuisine and beverages from the main sponsors of the event. Tickets are 100 USD for one day, or 180 USD for both days. This is a family-friendly event. Parents can opt to drop off their children at the Fun Kids’ Area and can later team up as a family for cooking lessons to create treats like cupcakes! This is surely a must-do activity for any foodie or simply for an amazing opportunity to explore the culinary world in the spectacular setting of white sand beaches and always impressive turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea!
