Top Coffee Spots in Playa
The truth is, it’s a sunny paradise down here in Playa del Carmen. But on occasion, it does downpour or get clouded up! When that happens, it’s nice to know where to go. Here are a few good tips on places to get a great cup of coffee in town and maybe relax with a comfy chair and good book. Or if you’re the type that just has a hard time disconnecting from the outside world and want to catch up on some E-mails or work, this may help you out.
Obviously Starbucks is a safe bet, and it’s steadily making its presence known here in Mexico. Several new locations have recently popped up in town. My favorite is the spot by City Club (on the highway), but there are several other smaller locations along 5th Ave. (Why not grab a cup of joe at the mall while your family does some shopping…or stop in during your daily constitutional!)
Playa also has a chocolate cafe called Ah Cacao—delicious! Similar to Starbucks in ambiance, there are several locations that are walkable from your downtown condo. I recommend going to the one on Calle 38 and 5th Ave! It’s the biggest location, with patio seating and two indoor air-conditioned levels. You can enjoy a couple of super cozy chairs in the loft area; oftentimes you’re the only one up there!
The final recommendation is not a so much of a sit-and-relax place but great nonetheless! It’s our local French bakery and coffee bar, Chez Celine. It sits on 5th Ave between Calle 32 and 34. Enjoy a crepe, delectable pastry, omelette, sandwich or fresh-baked baguette and jam along with a cup of hot coffee. This joint gets hopping by 9am so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table.
Whether you’re loyal to your triple-shot Americano or soy latte…or you’d like to venture out and try a local favorite, you have plenty of options on your vacation here in Playa!
