Top Coffee Spots in Playa

-Marley Coffee-

The smell of freshly ground coffee brewing is almost synonymous with mornings in my life. If that’s not the way my day starts, something is off. So needless to say, I love a good local coffee house!

The truth is, it’s a sunny paradise down here in Playa del Carmen. But on occasion, it does downpour or get clouded up! When that happens, it’s nice to know where to go. Here a few places where you can not only get a great cup of coffee, but enjoy good service and a cool ambience.

Obviously Starbucks is a safe bet, and it has a strong presence in this tourist mecca. It’s easy to grab a cup of joe at the Quinta Alegría mall (on 5th Ave and Constituyentes), while your family does some shopping. There are great weekly promos that’ll save you some pesos, so keep an eye out for those (like the coffee + donut for less than a dollar)!

Playa also has a chocolate café called Ah Cacao—delicious—I’m sure you’ve heard of it! There are several locations that are walkable from your downtown condo. I love going to the one on Calle 38 and 5th Ave. It’s the biggest location, with patio seating and two indoor air-conditioned levels. You can enjoy a couple of super cozy chairs in the loft area; oftentimes you’re the only one up there.

Even more central is Marley Coffee. Located in the Fives hotel on 10th Ave and calle 2, this trendy spot serves up great coffee, pastries and has excellent service. You have to check it out!

-Chez Celine-

If you like French pastries (who doesn’t) be sure to visit Cafe Antoinette and Chez Celine. (Click here for our article on Chez Celine). They both have downtown locations in Playa. Enjoy a crepe, delectable pastry, omelette, sandwich or fresh-baked baguette and jam along with a cup of hot coffee.

-Turmeric latte at Choux Choux Cafe-

But be warned, these popular cafes get hopping by 9am so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table. (It’s so worth it though!)

Have you visited Choux Choux Café yet? This is such a cool spot, all built from a shipping container. There’s a recycling depot, bakery, gift shop and more to check out. The unique mix of people this place draws is part of its charm. And the menu is absolutely fantastic (read up on it here)!

Whether you’re loyal to your triple-shot Americano or soy latte, or you like to venture out and try a local favorite, you have plenty of options on your vacation here in Playa!
