Tanino’s Wine Bar

The quiet little fishing town of Puerto Morelos is located about half-way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. You’ll pass it on your way from the airport to your condo in Playa. If you look down, you might miss it!

Known for its protected coral reef, Puerto itself is cute and less-crowded than many other places in the Mayan Riviera.

There is so much character and fun wrapped up in this charming little town, and there are plenty of excellent restaurants to enjoy! One such example is Tanino’s Wine Bar.

This lovely little restaurant serves up artistically-presented seafood dishes that complement the outdoor garden courtyard atmosphere. It is a wonderfully romantic little spot that fits in seamlessly with Puerto.

At Tanino’s, the wine list is pretty extensive for the small town restaurant that it is, and I am confident for even those of you who take wine very seriously, they’ll have a bottle for you!

The food is also excellent and you have a great variety of seafood to choose from. If you’re struggling to make a choice, I’d suggest the salmon—it’s delicious. The stuffed shrimp was a big hit with our friends when we went a few weeks ago. The salads are also gorgeously prepared and delicious. Entrees are beautifully arranged on a slab of slate!

To bring that much more to your dining experience, there’s a live 3-piece jazz band, or sometimes a jazz duo, that performs every Wednesday. (Playing a mix of old jazz standards and new pop hits all with sultry style, it’s delightfully classy dinner music. Click here for some samples.)

There is no question the elegant but laid-back ambiance is what makes this little spot so perfect. It’s north of the main square, on Avenida Rojo Gomez in Puerto Morelos; near the restaurant “Cantina Habanero”.

After a day of scuba diving, snorkeling, beaching or shopping in the quaint town square, relax and enjoy a fantastic meal at Tanino’s. Or just savor a glass of wine with your loved ones. It’s a well-kept secret for now…but won’t be for long!
