Piston Pueblo

Published on August 15, 2018 by Kelly Storhaug

For any adrenaline junkie motor heads there is a new attraction in town. Piston Pueblo is a motorsports theme park in the heart of the Mayan jungle! You might consider peeling yourself off a lounge chair and head out into the jungle to get muddy and wet and have some full throttle fun.

Piston Pueblo has been set up in an excellent location. You don’t have to trek an hour out into the jungle to get there. Situated just south of the Cancun International airport on the federal highway, it makes for a comfortable and relatively short bus or car ride from Playa del Carmen, (about 45 min straight up the highway).

You’re probably wondering what this place has to offer, well, here is the rundown! These are the available attractions with one proviso, they don’t have a huge stock of reserve vehicles, so there is a dependency on everything running appropriately.

Strap yourself–and maybe a very trusting friend–into either a 2 or 4 seater UTV or side-by-side and run some hot laps on their mile long mud track. When you’re tired of that, switch over to Go-Karts! Race your friends or try and beat the track record on their half mile dirt track (which is very bumpy).

Another activity they offer is jumping in the back of a monster truck, equipped with a paintball shotgun where you protect yourself from “zombies” lurking in the jungle. That’s not something you are going to do every day!

Or, as you hold onto your paintball gun, you can run their 5-tower zip line circuit. There are targets set up along the route and you can win prizes from their gift store if you are a good enough shot.

Additionally, there are several other fun things to do and see. Hop into one of their driving simulators, visit the pedal-kart track or the permanent muscle car exhibit. There’s also a kids’ zone for the youngsters. If you have an ever greater need for speed, you can book the 458 Ferrari Italia (for an additional fee), to take out on a road tour.

Two different packages are available for you to purchase. The full day pass provides you with round-trip transportation and unlimited access to everything:  drive as much as you want all day long! ($179 for adults and $139 for kids.) A general admission pass gets you round-trip transportation and a one time ride along. ($128 for adults and $89 for kids.)

Included in the price of your admission is food and drink from their BBQ Bus so make sure and keep your energy up!

Here are the requirements to take note of:

  • minimum 16 years of age to drive the UTV’s or go-karts (with valid driver’s license)
  • minimum 4 years of age to be a UTV passenger
  • minimum height 130 cm / 4ft 2 inches for ziplines, weight between 25kg / 55 lbs and 110 kg / 245 lbs

This excursion is a little on the pricey side and just a word of caution… you may deal with some equipment that isn’t totally up to par, but at the same time everything could be working like a dream and you may have no issues at all.

Piston Pueblo might just be what you’re looking for if you want a little adventure during your time in the Riviera Maya.
