Comfort Food, Argentina Style

Published on May 8, 2017 by admin

Los Gauchos creates an enjoyable and extremely comfortable family atmosphere. This kitchen provides good ol’ fashioned home cooking, true Argentinian comfort food.

Located in the sleepy little fishing village of Puerto Morelos, Los Gauchos sits right off the city square on the southwest corner. It’s directly across the street from the old church. This well-loved restaurant is the perfect place to satisfy your appetite after a day of diving, snorkeling, shopping or beaching.

The restaurant is small in size and the tables overflow out into the street, which is one of the things that make Gauchos so fun and different. You’ll find the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Even if you arrive with a bit larger of a group, it’s not a problem, they will move tables and chairs and whatever can be done to fit you in.

Now let’s talk about the food, oh the delicious food!

The number of scrumptious menu items to choose from is definitely a problem at times, a very good problem though! Whether you’re a steak lover or a vegetarian or just a pizza and pasta fan (which pretty much includes almost everyone on the planet), then get ready to enjoy a feast.

Your meal starts with a bread basket and chimichurri, which is a flavorful dressing/marinade. One of the best values on the menu is the 14oz arrachera steak. It’s succulent and delicious. Additionally, there are a number of other steak options, all well-priced. The pasta dishes are varied and super tasty. Try the Lasagna Bolognese—it is out of this world! Don’t miss trying the yummy baked or fried empanadas or different pizzas with their own flair of cheese and sauce; all very good.

Many evenings, local performers come in and play music at Los Gauchos. A flamenco dancing duo regularly performs to add a little more local pizzazz and culture to your dining experience.

Once you’ve finished your meal and have fully stuffed yourself, you can walk around the beautiful city square or park and enjoy the shops or get some gelato (just to help the food settle of course). Just a block away is the malecón (boardwalk) with beautiful views of the moonlit Caribbean Sea.

Get to Puerto Morelos if you can and enjoy the charming town, and amazing food at Los Gauchos.
