Best Breakfast in Playa del Carmen!

Playa del Carmen breakfastNo matter your appetite or style, the charming downtown of Playa del Carmen has a breakfast destination for you. Here are my top five choices for breakfast bliss in this tropical town:

5—Chicago Beef offers international breakfast choices for patrons with hearty appetites! American breakfast (a rarity in Playa), steak and eggs, Eggs Benedict, Belgian & English-style breakfasts are among the options. Enjoy generous portions of crisp golden waffles or omelettes made-to-order! Operated by ex-pat Americans, the restaurant delivers delicious meals made with premium quality ingredients to capture that elusive taste of home you’ve been missing! Located on the corner of 10th Ave and 22 St. Breakfast menu available from 9-11am only on weekends. (Closest to Ocean Plaza and Las Flores.)

4—La Cueva del Chango (The Monkey Cave), is a delightful nook that boasts unique ambience, excellent coffee and delicious Mexican cuisine. Relax in the lush garden setting complete with a stream and waterfall coursing through the centre of the dining area (look for the baby turtles swimming around)! The omelettes are superb, as are the enchiladas and crepes. Lighter fare includes croissants or fruit and granola. Everything is served on traditional hand-painted Mexican pottery dishes. A truly memorable Mexican experience that is a must for every visitor! Located on 38th Street near 5th.

3—Nativo is a refreshing spot to pause while shopping and enjoy a nutritious fruit smoothie (choose a half or full litre of any fruit blend imaginable). The Chilaquiles are excellent for those diners that wish to try a typical Mexican breakfast—tortilla chips, fried eggs, red or green sauce topped with crumbled cheese. With a palapa (palm-frond) roof, incredible air-brushed wall murals, and friendly staff, Nativo’s fun and fresh vibe can’t be beat! The prices are very affordable and the portions are large! Located on 30th Ave near MEGA and also on the corner of Juarez and the highway.

2—100% Natural is the optimal choice for the health-conscious traveller. The menu offers delicious gluten-free options, organic ingredients and international dishes. The restaurant was established over 30 years ago and has locations all across the country for good reason! Among the many options are energizing smoothies, fresh fruit, Danish pastries, farm-fresh eggs of every style imaginable, whole-grain bread and baguettes, wraps, and omelettes. Be sure to try the blueberry pancakes. The dining area is surrounded by lush greenery and a cascading waterfall near a stone archway. Located on 5th Avenue between 10th and 12th Street. (Within a 5-minute walk of El Faro, Luna Encantada and Corto Maltes.)

1—Chez Celine is renowned for its scrumptious pastries, exceptional coffee, crepes and omelettes! Its irresistible ambience combines casual and elegant touches to evoke a cafe in the French countryside. The airy indoor dining area features an open kitchen where bakers prepare tasty treats within view of patrons. Plenty of outdoor seating is available under a handsome Parisienne awning. The Light Continental breakfast includes a croissant, savory fresh-baked baguette slices, homemade butter and jam; with orange juice and a hot beverage of your choice. All these items are paired with a delightful smoked ham & cheese omelette served with baby roasted potatoes in the Countryside Breakfast. Or simply stop by and enjoy a cup of espresso paired with a delectable dainty indulgence! Choose gluten-free chocolate cake, mousse or creme brûlée, almond-chocolate-filled croissants, eclairs, or any manner of tart (strawberry, custard, chocolate, lemon or passionfruit)! Chez Celine is located on 5th Avenue and 34th Street.
