A Month in Paradise

Published on February 29, 2016 by admin

Have you ever considered an extended stay in Mexico? If you are like most of us, you come to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen for a week or so and think how nice it would be to stay a bit longer! If you have the circumstances for it, why not?

The first thing you might consider is whether or not to rent a car. Renting a car in Mexico is a good option; you can find good deals but often you have to search a bit. (Click here for more info.)

If you have fears of driving in Mexico, that’s understandable since there are a lot of untrained drivers on the roads. But overall, driving here is not bad at all, as long as you are a bit cautious and alert!

Renting a car definitely gives you so much freedom to move about and there is much to see in the area. Prefer to be a true local? Public transportation is available everywhere, but has no set schedule and isn’t as comfortable.

A couple other things that are good to be aware of if you stay for a month or so is where to get your necessities, food, groceries, etc. There are specialty imported food items that are available at Dac (a fantastic and fresh local market on 30th ave and Constituyentes). Otherwise you can shop at Walmart, Sam’s Club, or a variety of other local grocery stores.

You may not find all the products you’re used to seeing back home, but Playa del Carmen and Cozumel are definitely well-developed cities with decent shopping! It might be good to learn a few phrases in Spanish that can help you if you venture beyond the touristy areas or stores.

Beyond the gorgeous Caribbean beaches, there is so much to see and experience—more than you can manage in a week or even two! It’s well worth your while to check out a cenote during your stay (a natural fresh water spring, usually crystal clear and teeming with life)! Like blue jewels in the jungle, there are so many to choose from.

Get to know the area and take a day trip to Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Tulum, Cancun, Bacalar and beyond. There are 4 main archaeological sites with Mayan ruins to explore (like world famous Chichen Itza). Parks such as Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Xplor, Xoximilco are all nearby and each offer family fun in a stunning setting! For an unforgettable evening, there is a permanent Cirque du Soleil act especially designed for Mexico right here in the Mayan Riviera!

You can be assured of one thing: you will not be bored during your month stay here in paradise! Have fun and enjoy exploring Playa del Carmen and the rest of the Mayan Riviera.
